On Saturday, January 6th, IFI will visit the Abraham Lincoln Museum and other Lincoln sites in Springfield, Illinois! This is a world-class museum that masterfully tells the story of one of the most significant time periods in US history, centered around one of our best known presidents.. Learn about how a self-educated young man, who was born in a one-room log cabin, became a lawyer, and eventually, was elected President of the United States! Uncover the tragic social injustices in America’s early development. Discover how President Lincoln, through the four agonizing bloody years of the American Civil War, turned a nation toward a new day, abolished the institution of slavery, and preserved the union of its 36 states. Learn about of the principles and providence that guided his path. Following our visit at the museum, we will tour Abraham Lincoln’s actual home in Springfield. He and his family lived there prior to the beginning of his presidency in 1860. Most of the furnishings are original. Photos are permitted but no flash can be used in the museum or in the house. Do not touch any wax figures, items or displays.

We will all depart Urbana-Champaign as a group at 10:20 and be at the museum at 11:45. IFI transportation will be provided on the sign up form. The IFI student cost is $15 each including free museum entry (cash only – no cards, checks or digital currency). Bring your U of I student ID. Children are $10 cash. That includes their entry to the museum as well.

Bring your own sack lunch to eat on the way to Springfield or on the way home. You can opt to buy lunch at the museum’s restaurant (about $10 for a sandwich there), but they do not allow any food to be carried into the museum or its restaurant. There is also a Subway and a Jimmy John’s about a 10 minute walk south of the museum on 6th Street  IFI will provide a late afternoon snack and a bottle of water. We must enter the museum as a group and, therefore, we must all arrive together at 11:45. Transportation is limited and sign-up is required by all. If you are sure that you will attend, please sign up by Thursday evening, January 4th, so that we can plan for transportation. We want to avoid last minute cancellations so if you can’t attend, please email us now at
