On Thursday, June 19th, IFI will visit the Abraham Lincoln Museum and Lincoln’s home in Springfield, Illinois on their FREE admission day! Limited IFI transportation is available for those who are not driving there themselves.

This is a world-class museum that masterfully tells the story of a turning point period of time in US history, centered around one of our best known presidents, Abraham Lincoln. Learn about how a self-educated young man, who was born in a one-room log cabin, became a lawyer and, eventually, was elected President of the United States! Uncover the tragic social injustices in America’s early development. Discover how President Lincoln, during the four agonizing bloody years of the American Civil War, turned a nation toward a new day, abolished the institution of slavery, and preserved the union of all of its 36 states. Learn about the principles and faith that guided his path. After our visit at the museum, we will also tour Abraham Lincoln’s actual home a few blocks from there. He and his family lived there prior to the beginning of his presidency in 1860. Most of the furnishings are original.

Seating is limited and your sign-up is required by Wednesday noon, June 18th. Sign up only if you are positive that your will attend. All vehicles will meet at the Orchard Downs South Laundry, at 2050 S. Orchard St., Urbana, at 10:00 and arrive at the museum at 11:45. If you are driving your own car, please indicate that in your sign-up and please drive there along with the rest of the IFI vehicles when we leave Orchard Downs.

We recommend taking your own lunch to eat on the way there or at benches in the park across the street. You can opt to buy lunch there, but that will take time away from touring the museum. The museum has a restaurant (cost is about $10 for a lunch there). There is also Subway restaurant a few blocks south of the museum. Small locker spaces are available in the museum for 25 cents. There are gift shops at both the museum and Lincoln’s home. IFI will provide late afternoon snacks and a bottle of water.
