On Sunday, July 21th, IFI will visit the Abraham Lincoln Museum and other Lincoln sites in Springfield, Illinois! This is a world-class museum that masterfully tells the story of a turning point period of time in US history, centered around one of our best known presidents, Abraham Lincoln. Learn about how a self-educated young man, who was born in a one-room log cabin, became a lawyer and, eventually, was elected President of the United States! Uncover the tragic social injustices in America’s early development. Discover how President Lincoln, during the four agonizing bloody years of the American Civil War, turned a nation toward a new day, abolished the institution of slavery, and preserved the union of all of its 36 states. Learn about of the principles and providence that guided his path. After our visit at the museum, we will also tour Abraham Lincoln’s actual home in Springfield. He and his family lived there prior to the beginning of his presidency in 1860. Most of the furnishings are original.
IFI transportation is $5 per person (cash only, no card or phone payment). You will pay for your own entry fee into the museum and for any food or souvenirs. The museum entry fee is $15 for adults and $6 for children who are 5-15 years old (4 years and under are free).
Transportation is limited and sign-up is required by all. Sign up by Friday, July 19th, but only if you are sure that your will attend. We will all depart the Orchard Downs South Laundry as a group at 9:20 and be at the museum at 10:45. Bring your own sack lunch to eat in the park across from the museum, or you can opt to buy lunch at the museum’s restaurant (about $10 for a sandwich there. There is also a Subway and a Jimmy John’s about a 10 minute walk south of the museum on 6th Street Your wristband will allow you to leave and reenter the museum.
